[Free & Easy] Hong Kong 2017 Day 4
08 December 2017We had originally planned to take a taxi from Shamrock Hotel to Disneyland. But the little one wanted to go on the Mickey Mouse train, so we lugged our suitcases onto the MTRs and went line-hopping again.
On reaching Disneyland station, we took the hotel shuttle to the Hollywood hotel to check in our luggages. Although the rooms would only be allocated at 3 pm (check-in time), guests can pre-check-in to collect the room cards as well as priority passes at Disneyland!
Then it’s off we go for our magical day at Disneyland.
Again, we got our entrance passes and meal coupons from Klook so we headed straight to the turnstiles to collect our entrance tickets as well as a stack of meal vouchers. It was already noon so we decided to have lunch first before exploring the park.
Along the way to lunch, we bought a helium filled Mickey Mouse head balloon. And it turned out to be quite a liability because it cannot be brought on the rides and shows so we had to deposit it at the entrance of each attraction. And for umpteen times, we forgot to retrieve it after the ride/ show and had to backtrack to get it. Also, the balloon cannot be brought up on aeroplanes so we had to deflate it eventually before boarding.
Lunch @ Royal Banquet Hall was not-too-bad but expensive (less so with the meal coupons).
With the little one in tow, we camped mostly at Fantasyland going on harmless kiddy rides and shows.
We stumbled a photo session with Tigger! The little one appeared to have mixed feelings; while he was excited to meet Tigger, he seemed to be abit scared of it, putting up a contrived smile for the camera.
Who wants ice-cream and popcorns? I want!
We then joined in the line to catch the Flights of Fantasy parade @ 3 pm.
While the little one was not afraid of heights nor thrill rides, he is terrified of robots, artificial intelligence and large-sized puppets. So he ended up pretty shook up at the Mickey’s PhilharMagic 3D show.
Left our balloon at the entrance so we had to walk back to get it.
Next up was Coven’s favourite ride: ‘It’s a Small World’. Seated on a small boat, we went through the different landscape dioramas with little dolls and animals moving mechanically to the annoying iconic tune on repeat. The attention to details in the setup was amazing. We particularly loved the underwater section where the song was played out in a gargling sound effect!
Forgot our balloon so we walked back again!
At 5 pm, the sun was already setting behind the Sleeping Beauty’s castle. We were also exhausted from the attraction hopping so we settled on one last ride before dinner: The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.
The Disneyland handphone app was extremely useful as it shows the waiting times for the different attractions as well as acts as a GPS for finding the locations.
This ride was a little more thrilling than the previous with sharp turns, door banging and sudden movements. Both mama and Coven came out pretty stunned.
Dinner was @ Explorer Club Restaurant which is made up of courtyards with designs and atmosphere from 5 different countries: China, India, Russia, Morocco and Egypt.
We settled down at the first section we passed: Egypt and boy was that a wrong decision. The extremely dim lights and loud chattering in the confines made us even more sleepy. We made more bad decisions with the food choice opting for the Korean ginseng chicken soup which turned out to be rather meh.
After dinner, we decided to pass on the "Disney In The Stars" Fireworks and return to our hotel to rest.
At night, the theme park is extremely dark along the walkways. But the dim setting helped to accentuate the charms of the decorative lights and attractions.
After checking into our room and washing up, we were treated to a pleasant surprise: firework display outside the window!
