[Dynasty Travel] 8D7N Taiwan Explorer - Day 6

17 December 2010

Day 6 (Hsinchu, Taipei)

In the morning, we returned to our coach to find it broken into. Sadly, we lost our bag of towel souvenirs. And no, we were not compensated for it.

Our first stop of the day was Leo Foo Village Theme park. This is my second visit and it is not different from what I remembered. The gf went on the Viking and while waiting for her, I chomped down a delicious chicken cutlet dusted with chilli powder. She also satiated her palate with a Turkish ice-cream cone

We then went around the African Safari taking pictures of the animals in their enclosures.

Just before we left, we went on the Monkey Trail - a bicycle ride perched on a 2-storey high rail. My hands froze when the cart left the safety net and wobbled a little. Sigh. Can't overcome my fear of heights.

We left in the afternoon and proceeded to Cihu where an assortment of statures of the late Taiwan President Chiang Kai-shek was located. We also passed through the funeral parlour of Mr Chiang.

Next was Dasi Old Street which was lined with exquisite baroque-style buildings. We rested at a shop to try their famous dried beancurd and soya bean curd.

Dinner was at Xi Men Ding, a shopping paradise not unlike Bugis street. The gf had the famous Ah Zong Mian Xian while I gave it a miss not wanting to eat innards. I settled for handmade noodles and we also bought the highly recommended bitter gourd-honey drink.

The night’s hotel was a sleazy boutique hotel which has a private lift that brings you from the carpark to your room. This affords a cloak to people having a rendezvous. The room was well-designed for that too. There was a large 360° rotatable television and the toilet has a Jacuzzi with a television in front of it.
